Chapel Hill First Public University in U.S.
The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill is one of the southeast's most revered institutions. Besides its athletic legacies, the institution is most known for its medical university and its distinction as a top research university. The traditional campus is located in central North Carolina, in the Triangle Area-Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The campus is lush and green and a meld of historic and contemporary architectures.
Academic colleges and schools include: Kenan-Flagler Business School, College of Arts and Sciences, Friday Center for Continuing Education, General College, Graduate School, Summer School; Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, and Pharmacy; and Schools of Law, Journalism and Mass Communication, Information and Library Science, Dentistry, Government, and Education.
Since the school's founding in 1795, UNC-CH has been the cornerstone for the state university system. Even during the Civil War students continued to be educated and graduated. Today the university boasts one of the most prodigious medical programs. Undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees are all conferred. Enrollment exceeds 25,000 at any one time.

There are a number of avenues that lead to distance education at UNC-CH and students that seek distance opportunities may explore online and blended programs in Health Professions, Communications, and Education fields. Candidates may pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as professional certificates. The nursing program at UNC is strong, and a few-a RN-BSN, MSN, and a post grad certificate-are offered via the distance program.
Ongoing developments in UNC's distance delivery have united all 16 campuses in the UNC system, called collectively, The University of North Carolina Online. Now candidates may access the full spectrum of online degrees via one website, as if it were one separate academic entity. This attempts to funnel all distance learners through one academic conduit where admissions, tuition, online environments, and student inquiries may all be consistently managed.
There are at least 150 online degrees and courses, and prospective candidates may search for a specific program type or for a specific campus. Education, Health Professions, and Technologies degrees are most plentiful.
