Loyola University New Orleans is a Catholic Jesuit institution that provides undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees. The university is a mainstay of the Uptown New Orleans area where it has been diligently building a coeducational campus since the early 1900s. This thriving historical area has recovered nicely from Hurricane Katrina and Loyola continues to attract traditional students for its location, degree programs, and commitment to education founded on Jesuit values. In fact the university took very proactive steps to lift the city from ruin and is respected for its efforts to quickly get students back onto campus in order to turn out subsequent graduating classes. The recent relocation of the renowned Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to the Loyola campus underscores this institution's commitment to the region's cultural roots as well as to the music program at LU.
Small, Intimate Undergraduate Programs
Loyola New Orleans has earned educational accolades, especially for its undergraduate programs in which faculty teach small classes of students. This enviable faculty to student ratio is often a key to high-quality educational programs. Faculty are also highly educated, many with post-graduate degrees, and just as many consistently engaged in various stages of their own academic research. Over 5,000 students attend Loyola every year.
Academic colleges on Loyola campus include: Law, Music and Fine Arts, Joseph A. Butt, S.J., College of Business, Social Sciences, and Humanities and Natural Sciences.
Online Nursing Degree
Loyola offers an online Masters of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Health Care Systems Management. RNs with a Bachelors degree in a field other than nursing may also be accepted, provided they complete the MSN Bridge Program. The National League for Nursing accredits the nursing program at Loyola.
The online MSN program offers a convenient and ultra-specialized environment for study, suited entirely for professional nurses. The goal is to encourage highly motivated healthcare professionals to seek higher ground within their profession. The nursing field as a whole is in danger of losing the majority of its experienced nursing resources as the age of nurses steadily increases with very few new recruits to replace them.
In response to the national nursing shortage many colleges and universities have taken up the task to add critical need degrees that are designed to net a solid student body that might not have otherwise had the opportunity to pursue better salaries and leadership positions. This is the case with the singular MSN in Health Systems Management.
